Native to El Paso, Texas, my love for the outdoors began at a very early age, traveling to national parks to a neighboring New Mexico. Since leaving my hometown 10 years ago, I now have a family of my own and enjoy going on our own little adventures. And because family adventures take a lot of energy, I know how important it is to take time completely for myself. Many times, nature plays a huge part on my own self-care. My appreciation for nature continues to develop throughout my adulthood, taking on greater challenges like attempting high peaks in Colorado!
Roxanne has extensive experience spanning over 16 years working with at-risk populations in various settings. Her background includes roles in residential treatment centers, providing bilingual services to unaccompanied minors, crisis assessment and intervention in hospital settings, and inpatient mental health counseling. Roxanne has also achieved certification as a Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist (TF-CBT), specializing in trauma-informed counseling for children and families affected by child abuse and neglect.
Beyond direct therapeutic interventions, Roxanne leverages her extensive experience to provide valuable team-building sessions for local agencies. These sessions not only strengthen teamwork and communication but also equip participants with skills to navigate challenges effectively and promote a supportive work environment.
Roxanne is certified as a Reality Orientated Physical Experience Facilitator Level II (ROPEs). This certification is integral to her role in conducting interventions that involve family-based adventure therapy and team building experiences. She employs an integrative approach in her work, combining experiential techniques from Adventure Therapy with other traditional therapy models.
I grew up in Houston, Texas, in a vibrant community shaped by the experiences of my immigrant parents. Inspired by their journey, I pursued higher education in San Antonio, where I have made this my home for more than 18 years.
One of my most beloved retreats is Guadalupe River State Park. Here, whether the river flows serenely or its bed lies dry depending on the weather, the surrounding landscapes never fail to rejuvenate my spirit. My earliest visits involved exploring trails with my dogs and cooling off in the water. Now, as a mother, I have the joy of sharing this natural haven with my two children.
I am eager to pass on my deep love for nature to my children. Together, we go on nature walks where we observe plants, bird watch, collect wildflowers, explore bugs up close, and witness my three-year-old attempting to climb just about anything in sight. These experiences are not just about outdoor exploration; they are opportunities for us to bond, learn, and cherish the beauty of our natural surroundings. Its my favorite thing to do and I can't wait to create more memories in the outdoors with them.
